Georgi Vinnikov

News
6.04.2008 |We regret to tell that, on April 4, Georgi
Vinnikov died at home. The child had a tumor recurrence.
3.09.2007 Georgi is at the hospital department with his mother.
Tomorrow, Georgi will undergo marrow autotransplantation.
20.08.2007 Georgi Vinnikov returned from Munich this week.
He was operated by Prof. von Schweinitz. Parents of our other children
operated by this surgeon (Ruslan Fidarov,
Masha Tseberyaboi, and
Dima Zyukov) say that this doctor
has magical hands. The professor is satisfied with the
result of the surgery: the tumor has been removed almost completely.
He also liked the patient's condition on admission to his clinic,
in spite of the grave diagnosis: he thinks that the treatment
in Moscow was quite adequate and very accurate. Now the child
is receiving his treatment at our hospital again. He will undergo
radiation therapy and marrow autotransplantation. The boy turned
seven on August 17. Congratulations and best wishes!
3.08.2007 The surgery took place recently. An anonymous
sponsor gave the money for the treatment to Georgi's mother.
However, we don't yet know the exact required sum, and so
the fundraising will be continued for the time being.
23.07.2007 On July 22, Georgi and his mother
left for Munich. The required sum has been raised only
partially, but surgery is required urgently, and
so the administration of the German clinic has agreed
to admit the boy immediately. We are continuing the
fundraising and waiting for the news.

We were a very happy family. Just as the old saying advises, we gave
birth to sons, built our own house, and planted a garden. But our
wonderful world was shattered three days before the New Year celebrations:
our youngest and merriest child was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, stage 4,
with 70% lesion of the bone marrow. Yesterday our boy ran about and
played, and today we hear that his condition is hopeless and only hospice
care is possible...
Perhaps it was our guardian angel that directed us to the Russian
Children's Clinical Hospital, where we were seen by doctor Litvinov and his
wonderful team. We have spent half a year here. We struggle, hope,
and sometimes even smile. Surgery in Germany will give a chance
for survival to our son, and we will have a chance to see his
beaming smile for months and years to come. We are asking all
kind and compassionate people to help us. We must struggle and win.

The doctor's comment
Dear friends!
Our patient Georgi Vinnikov, aged 6.5, needs your help. The boy has
neuroblastoma of the left adrenal gland, stage 4, with lesion of
skeleton and bone marrow. After six cycles of intensive chemotherapy,
very good effect was achieved: the primary tumor decreased notably,
the bone marrow became free of tumor cells, and the metastatic lymph
nodes shrank to normal size. Presently the boy needs radical oncotomy
with removal of the primary tumor in the region of the left
adrenal gland and retroperitoneum. Subsequently, we are ready
to perform marrow autotransplantation at our department. Unfortunately,
the size of the tumor is fairly large even after its notable reduction,
and our surgeons cannot guarantee that the child's left kidney will
be saved. And it is very undesirable to remove this kidney, because
such removal will seriously complicate the boy's further life and,
in the nearest future, the autotransplantation of the bone marrow.
Prof. Dietrich von Schweinitz, one of the most famous German surgeons
and the leader of the surgical direction of the neuroblastoma protocol
in that country, has agreed (so to say, as an exception) to
operate Georgi personally for a minimum cost and attempt to save
his left kidney. We think that such a chance
would be very fine to use. The surgery will cost 15,000 euro, and
this price is not too high for the child's kidney.
