12.05.2002 12 580.74 roubles (ca. 400 USD) was
paid for Sergei Stukalov's prothesis. Now the
whole sum has been paid, and Sergei will
receive this prothesis and go home as soon
as all the parts reach Moscow.
6.05.2002 Irina paid 46 800 roubles (ca. 1500 USD)
for Sergei Stukalov's prosthesis. Now the remaining
sum to be paid is 12 580.74 roubles (ca. 400 USD).
Sergei has a very big foot, and therefore
this part had to be ordered in Germany, but Otto
Bock Co. guarantees that all the parts will arrive
in Moscow by the beginning of June, and Sergei's
prothesis will be completely ready.
23.04.2002 Irina and Maria transferred 200 USD for
Sergei Stukalov via the online credit card system.
18.04.2002 ABN-AMRO Bank paid 36 395.04 roubles
as a prepayment to buy a prosthesis (Otto Bock)
for Serezha Stukalov. The prosthesis will be
ready in two weeks, and the remaining sum to
be paid is 59 380.74 roubles. When the bank employees
learned that Serezha is keen on football, they
gave him a present: a football with autographs
of the Ajax team players and a scarf
with the colors of this club. This unexpected
present was a great joy for Serezha, and now he
is in much better spirits.

My name is Sergei Stukalov. I live in the town of Michurinsk,
Tambov region. I am 15 now, and I have been ill since nine.
I am suffering from arterio-venous fistulae of the left shin
(the Parks-Weber syndrome). Since birth, I have had a red spot
on my leg; the doctors believed it was an ordinary
mole, but black dots started to appear on it when I was nine,
and pains began. We went to the Tambov regional hospital,
I spent a week and a half there and was sent to the
Leninskie Gorki sanatorium near Moscow. And, after two
weeks there, I suddenly had an awful bleeding in my foot:
the blood fountain gushed almost to the ceiling. I was urgently
taken to the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital that
very night, and the doctors managed to stop the bleeding.
But I had another bleeding in three months, was taken
to the RCCH again, and was told not to walk. The doctors
told my mother that an urgent operation was necessary, because
otherwise I would bleed to death. The operation took place
on January 17 and lasted 27 hours. Five medical teams
participated in it. They performed embolization of the
veins very well and thus saved my life. They also
transplanted a piece of skin from my shoulder-blade
and a vessel. As to the vessel, engraftment was successful;
as to the skin, it was not. And another operation was
carried out. For a month, I had to lie in a pressure
chamber with my leg outstretched; then my left foot
was sewn to my right shin so as to engraft the skin.
After these operations, the pains were so severe that the doctors
had to use anesthesia just to bandage my leg - 15 bandages under
general anesthesia! I spent nine months at the RCCH, of
them six months in bed. And then learned to walk again
in three weeks.
We were allowed to go home. But I had fistulae again and
had to undergo several additional operations. All in all, I had
11 operations and 35 anesthesias.
Although I had severe pains in my leg, I was still keen on sports.
I played for the Tambov Spartak team almost as a professional.
We became champions of the region. I played in special boots and
was a right fullback.
When I arrived at hospital this year, the doctors called me
to the interns' room and nad a long conversation with me.
"We can perform an embolization, enter the artery, and
block the fistulae. But this operation may fail.
An amputation is the most probable outcome. If you have
a good prosthesis, you will be able to walk and even
play football. And if the operation fails, we will have to amputate your
leg all the same, but your heart will also require treatment in this
case."
And I agreed. There was nothing else to do, and one-third of my left
shin
was amputated on March 21. Now I am in great need for a
prosthesis. But my parents are unable to buy a good
prosthesis for me, because it costs 3000 USD. My mother and
father work on a railroad and receive a monthly salary of
2500 and 2000 roubles, respectively.
So I am asking you for help. Please help me buy a prosthesis
and live a normal life. I am grateful to everybody who
is going to respond to my plea.
