The Russian Children’s Clinical Hospital is located in Moscow by the address Leninskii prospekt 117. It is a unique institution with no analogs throughout Russia. Children from various parts of the country come here if they cannot receive due medical help in their cities and towns. These children have the most grave and sometimes even incurable diseases: leukemia, malignant tumors, kidney failure, immune disorders. The hospital admitted children after the earthquake in Armenia, Chechen refugees, those exposed to radiation in Chernobyl or wounded during the terrorist act in Beslan.
The hospital has 1025 beds. There are unique specialized departments for children: bone marrow and kidney transplantations, microvascular surgery, reconstructive surgery, general hematology, oncohematology, clinical immunology, neurosurgery. Up to 30% cases require cost-intensive treatment.
16,000 patients receive treatment at the hospital each year, and approximately 20,000 children receive consultations for out-patient treatment. About 90% patients come from provincial regions. Although state financing is clearly insufficient, the hospital provides treatment free of charge whenever it is possible.
RCCH is a large educational and scientific hub. It hosts 14 departments of the Medical University and two research institutes (Institute of Pediatric Hematology and Institute of Clinical Genetics). To solve practical, educational, and scientific tasks, the RCCH has created a powerful diagnostic center.
Medical care for children with hematological, oncohematological, oncological, endocrine, or immune disorders is extremely expensive. It requires supply of contemporary drugs, laboratory and diagnostic services, as well as long-term recuperation facilities.
