Dear friends,
All the children whom we are trying to save are
gravely ill. Therefore, sometimes our efforts fail. No matter
how hard the doctors, sponsors, and donors may try, the disease
sometimes overcomes. We want to be honest with the people who
help our children, and so we do not conceal the sad facts from
you. Each death of a gravely ill child sometimes makes one doubt
if such financial and emotional expenses are indeed justified.
This is a real problem, and our only possible reply is that
some things just ought to be done. A person between life and
death should not feel abandoned. And many parents have told
us that they felt better and stronger due to the knowledge that
everything possible and necessary would be done for their child.
Therefore, we will continue this work, and we hope that you
will support us.
When it is impossible to save a child, the last
thing that we can do is to help with the funeral. It is difficult
to speak about this, but, since we directly participate in the
organization of the children's funerals, probably it would be
appropriate to mention their cost here. For the parents, who
are totally exhausted after many months at the hospital in a
strange city (where only few of them have any relatives), the
funeral is an especially heavy burden. We try to be together
with them in their grief, to help with all the documents, and
to provide financial help. The actual sum, usually from $300
to $800, depends on how far from Moscow the child's family lives.
