Patients with primary immunodeficiencies should be subjected to genetic examinations
in order to search for gene mutations, to get more precise information for the final diagnosis,
and to verify the form of immunodeficiency. Thus one can determine the options
for the therapy, including the possibility and necessity of bone marrow transplantation,
gene therapy, substantiation of the necessity of therapy using expensive medications,
decision on the patient's disability, etc. In addition, genetic examinations
are necessary to include patients with immunodeficiencies into the European register,
since this inclusion also promotes the use of state-of-the-art treatment methods.
Head of the Department of Clinical Immunology
Irina V. Kondratenko is asking us to help in paying for genetic examinations needed
by the following patients of this department: Daniil Shantalov,
Alexander Kuzin, and Irchen
Muchkaev. All of these children have been diagnosed with primary immunodeficiencies.
The average cost of the examination for each patient is 18 to 20 thousand roubles ($550-$600).
They are from poor families with a monthly income about $200, and these families
cannot pay for such examinations themselves.
