News

20.10.2007 Ortheses for Sasha Kapustin have been ordered and paid for. Thank you for your help! The orthopedic system for Sasha, which costs 85,000.45 roubles ($3400), was manufactured by Alexei Nalogin. Sasha is one of the youngest patients who are learning to walk using Nalogin's Dospekhi (Armor) system, and we hope that this wonderful boy will gradually achieve the same as other boys of his age and have a normal life at last.

Sasha Kapustin

Two years ago you helped Sasha get ortheses. He works a lot to walk in them, because he wants to go to school. But he has become taller, and the old ortheses are already too small for him, and a new design is also required. Also, the doctors say that Sasha will need nighttime ortheses. Please help us!

Yours respectfully,
Svetlana Kapustina

The doctor's comment

Patient Alexander (Sasha) Kapustin, b. 2002, needs a Dospekhi (Armor) orthopedic system with fixation of ankle, knee, and hip joints, fixation of spinal column with symmetrical correction. The system is required for further rehabilitation.
In view of the clinical findings, the child also needs additional ortheses for correction of postural and orthopedic anatomical alterations during sleep.
On the basis of the anamnesis, we can state that the use of orthopedic systems is absolutely necessary for the boy.

In 2007:

My son Sasha needs your help. He will be able to stand and walk in the vertical position only using ortheses, which cost 70 to 80 thousand roubles (approximately $3000). He will turn five soon, and he has been receiving examinations and treatment at the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital since he was one month old. He has undergone surgical interventions on his spinal cord (excision of myelocele) and brain (ventriculoperitoneal shunting). He has lower-limb paraplegia and bilateral hip dislocation. We dream of the day when our boy will be able to stand all by himself, but our family has no money to buy these ortheses.
Sasha is very sociable and smart. He loves playing with jigsaw puzzles and Lego sets. He grows up and develops just like any other boy of his age, only he is short, because his legs grow slowly. After he puts on these ortheses, he will be able to stand in the upright position, which will stimulate growth of his legs. Our boy will be able to look at the world from his normal height. And now he sees only the legs of people around him. He runs on all fours faster than we walk on our two legs. And he wants to play football some time...
Please help Sasha!

With hope and respect,
