5.10.99 Vanya Scherbenev, a baby with inborn immune deficiency, underwent a successful bone marrow transplantation operation, but later he has developed a rare complication happening exactly after such operations. The hospital's doctors, just as their foreign colleagues, have not figured out the way to fight this complication. Unfortunately, they could not save Vanya's life.
31.05.99 Vanya Scherbenev is going to be released from hospital! He will
attend physicians twice a week, and then, should everything be all right,
go back home.
9.05.99 The doctors say that Vanya Scherbenev's bone marrow has completely adapted after the transplantation operation of two months ago!
21.03.99 The operations with a transplantation of bone marrow on the children with
immune deficiencies were made in Russia for the first time. At the moment, it can be ascertained
that Vanya Shcherbenev and Alesha Pavlov have
their bone marrow rooted. The children feel normal, they are cheerful, active, gaining in weight,
have an excellent appetite. However, further analyses are required to evaluate the operation efficiency. New information will be available in two weeks at least, while operation result may be unclear up to 120 days.
17.02.99 Vanya Shcherbenev and Alesha Pavlov have been operated with a transplantation of bone marrow. The operation effect will be known in about three weeks.
A true Christmas miracle has been accomplished!
Good people are going to do all necessary things to save life of Vanya! It is a pity we are not allowed to mention the name of the company as its personnel wants to remain unknown. We thank you very very much!

Tragic circumstances forced us to plead for help. In January, 1997, we lost our first-born son Artem who died when he was four months old. Now, the physicians of the Russian Clinical Children’s Hospital try and save our second son Vanya whose diagnosis is a severe combined immune insufficiency. The little boy is located in a sterile room as any slightest infection can prove lethal for him. The only way to save his life is a transplantation of the bone marrow. The medicines required for the operation cost about $50,000. Neither we nor the hospital which is a budgetary organization have the amount.
We are pleading with people who can help our son. You are the only our hope.
Parents of Vanya Shcherbenev.
