Work of the Regional Public Charity Foundation for Seriously ill and Abandoned Children in 2008: Sums spent on purchase of medications, equipment, consumables, and paying for medical services

In 2008, the Regional Public Charity Foundation for Seriously ill and Abandoned Children provided help for a total of 55,800,000 roubles (about $2,000,000) to the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital, to its departments, to patients and their parents.

During 2008, our foundation provided help to patients of all hospital departments within the following programs and directions:

  • Help in purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment and consumables:
    Equipment, instruments, and consumables worth a total of 4,181,000 roubles have been bought.
  • Help in purchase of medications:
    Expensive medications for certain patients and some basic medications temporarily lacking at the hospital worth a total of 12,732,000 roubles have been bought (over 3/4 of this sum was transferred from the account of our foundation; the rest directly provided by private sponsors).
  • Purchase of rehabilitation applicances:
    Prostheses, endoprostheses, ortheses, orthopedic boots, inhalers, pulsoxymeters, oxygen concentrators, hearing aids, and systems for automatic peritoneal dialysis worth a total of 3,244,000 roubles have been bought.
  • Further support of programs for unrelated bone marrow transplantations and treatment in foreign clinics:
    Funds for search for bone marrow donors has been raised for 8 children; for graft harvesting, for 4 children. On recommendations of the hospital doctors, 8 children have received examinations and treatment abroad. The total expenses within this program in 2008 exceeded 10,000,000 roubles.
  • Payment for medical services to patients of our hospital in other medical institutions:
    Tests and examinations at the Center for Roentgenology and Radiology, Research Institute of Epidemiology, Center for Molecular Genetics, etc. have been paid for; they cost a total of 1,200,000 roubles.
  • House of Hope:
    The cottage for children receiving out-patient treatment at hematological departments hosted about 100 families in 2008; maintenance and transportation services cost a total of 1,043,000 roubles.
  • You Are Not Alone program for helping orphan patients:
    In 2008, 105 children received in-patient treatment at our hospital (125 admissions to hospital). A total of 2,678,000 roubles was paid for the work of nurses taking care of orphan patients. Additional nutrition for these patients cost 980,000 roubles. Visits of medical specialists to Smolensk, Shuya, and Kursk required 280,000 roubles. Finally, 11,000,000 roubles was spent on construction of a rehabilitation center for orphan patients.
  • Hygienic goods for a total of 5,207,000 roubles were bought for the hospital patients.
  • About 3,000,000 roubles was spent on social help to 80 especially poor families.
  • The total sum spent by our foundation on purchase of flight tickets and for funeral services for deceased children in 2008 is 268,000 roubles.
  • Within the art therapy program, about 50 volunteers teach and amuse children.
