I am Alexandra Zharova, mother of Vladislava Drozdova. My child has been getting treatment
virtually since the first days of her life. Presently her disorder has been precisely diagnosed,
and bone marrow transplantation is necessary.
I cannot pay for this operation myself, because it costs an enormous sum: 15,000 euro.
Please help us!
With hope and gratitude,
Alexandra Zharova

Note: a matching donor for Vlada has been found. Bone marrow transplantation
is planned for January. Search for an unrelated donor has already been performed in the
Stefan Morsch register. Now we must pay for this search and subsequent graft harvesting.
The doctor's comment
A joint meeting of specialists of the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital,
including Deputy Head Physician I.B. Bryusova, Deputy Director of Institute of Pediatric Hematology,
Oncology, and Immunology A.A. Maschan, Head of the Department of Marrow Transplantation
E.V. Skorobogatova, neurologist S.V. Mikhailova discussed further therapy of
patient Vlada Drozdova, born Feb 25, 2008, who has been diagnosed with mucopolysaccharidosis
type 1 (Hurler's syndrome). The joint meeting decided that allogeneic transplantation
of hematopoietic stem cells is the only method of curing this condition.
Since the child has no related HLA-matching donor, search for a hematopoietic
stem cell donor should be performed through an international register. In case a donor
is found, the date of admission to the Department of Marrow Transplantation will
be immediately determined.
