Zhenya suddenly died on September 2. Multiple congenital malformations required constant treatment since
the first days of the little girl's life. She had to undergo numerous surgeries. And there was heart failure...

We whole-heartedly thank Roman Kovalenko for his immediate response
to the new request concerning Zhenya's treatment. He has paid
for the entire amount of VFend, which the girl needs now.
We are continuing the fundraising for purchase of other medications,
which the girl will yet need for a long time: Albumin,
Ursofalk suspension, Aminoven Infant, etc.

Physician Yulia V. Averyanova tells about the condition
and treatment of Zhenya Bakanova:
"The condition of patient Eugenia (Zhenya) Bakanova,
aged 1 year 7 months, has stabilized to such an extent
that a unique reconstructive surgical intervention
(elongation of small bowel) could be performed.
Presently she is at the Intensive Care Department after
this long and complex operation, and she needs IV VFend
(10 vials, a total of 61,000 roubles). Please help
in purchase of this drug.
We thank all who helps our Zhenya. It is amazing to see
how this girl smiles and plays. This is the result of treatment -
but also the result of your efforts, kindness, and support."

The doctor's comment
Eugenia (Zhenya) Bakanova (born Nov 6, 2007) is a patient of the Department of Abdominal
Surgery. Main clinical diagnosis: Congenital intestinal defect
(Zuelzer-Wilson syndrome?). Condition after multiple surgical operations.
Complications: fungal sepsis. Postresection short bowel syndrome. Malabsorption syndrome.
SIBO syndrome. Cachexia. Anemia of mixed
origin. Reactive hepatitis due to prolonged parenteral nutrition.
Associated disorders: perinatal CNS disorder of mixed origin.
Combined hydrocephaly in the stage of subcompensation. Patent foramen ovale.
Myocardiodystrophy.
The child has been ill since birth. During the first year of her life, she underwent more than 5
surgical operations for the congenital intestinal defect. She spent 14 months at the Intensive
Care Department of a hospital in Samara. Two months ago, she was transferred to the
Department of Abdominal Surgery of the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital in critical
condition. She weighed only 3200 g at that moment.
The child needs permanent infusion therapy and parenteral nutrition, as well as combined
antibacterial and antifungal therapy. In spite of all the difficulties, her condition has
improved at our hospital: fungal sepsis is almost over, the child has gained 2 kg and become
more active.
The girl's mother Vera raises her all by herself and does everything to save her daughter.
But this family also needs our help and support.
The girl needs regular administration of Albumin, Ursofalk suspension, Aminoven Infant, and
Dipeptiven. The approximate total cost of all these drugs per month is 55,000 roubles
(about $1570).
