20.03.2002 Olesya Andreeva died on Saturday, March 16,
at 10 a.m. This 13-year-old girl was a pure soul. She
believed in God, and during her last days she asked Him
not to prolong her unbearable agony any more.
The last thing she did on earth was a present for her
mother, an embroidered picture of a vase with flowers.
She still had time for the vase, and the flowers were
brought to her burial service. White roses and red
tulips. "When children die, they turn into angels,"
said Father Gregory Chistyakov in his farewell speech.
"We believe that they become our invisible guardians
and companions, who will never leave us. We invisibly
meet them through the Eucharist and in our prayers."
Just as Olesya's mother held her hand up to the last
moment of the girl's life, Olesya's soul will now
support her parents, as in Pushkin's famous epitaph
to a baby: "He is smiling at the earthly exile,
Blesses his mother and prays for his father."
After the burial service, Olesya's body was taken
to her native town of Bezhetsk. And when Olesya's mother
Valya was standing on the footboard of the bus, her body all in
sunlight, she looked at each of us in silence, as a parting.
She found the strength to smile at everybody.
There was so much belief and love in her eyes that we
just stood motionless, feeling this parting as the
minutes of real sanctity.
14.2.2002 Andrei and his wife bought 2 vials of Ambisome (500 USD) for
Olesya
Andreeva, who is now in a critical condition. Danila and his
friends bought ten more vials of Ambisome for Olesya. Now Olesya's
life is hanging by a thread. Please help her soul and body by
praying for her. She believes in your prayers.
5.2.2002 Olesya Andreeva is in a poor condition.
She has the intestinal form of the graft vs. host disease,
4th degree. Her condition is life-threatening. Olesya
receives four immunosuppressive drugs, but so far
there is no improvement. Please pray for her recovery!
23.1.2002 Andrei bought 10 g of Octagam for Olesya Andreeva.
21.01.2002 Since the Health Department of the Republic of Tuva paid
for Arzhaana Dagzhi's treatment, the money donated for this girl
was used to buy Zovirax and Diflucan for Igor Abramov (37755.20 roubles)
and Aminosteril KE 10% for Olesya Andreeva (8663.10 roubles).
3.01.2002 The staff of the ABN-AMRO Bank collected
10 062 roubles. This sum was used to buy Zovirax in
tablets for Olesya Andreeva. Other drugs bought
for Olesya are Meronem (10 vials), intravenous Zovirax
(30 packs), Diflucan (44 capsules), and Ursosan
(100 capsules).
Olesya Andreeva is in a good condition: she has a normal temperature, no
pain,
but the main thing is that leukocytes have reappeared (0.6),
which means that the transplanted bone marrow has started functioning.
The graft vs. host reaction, which started to develop before the New
Year
holidays, is currently controlled with medicines.
24.12.2001 Denis bought 22 vials of Meronem (29 021.96
roubles) for Olesya Andreeva.
Gloves (1540 roubles) and 20 vials of Diflucan
(9778.60 roubles) have also been purchased.
Elena and Sergei donated 15 000 roubles to Olesya for
irradiation of donor blood and for nutrition.
Olesya had a marrow transplantation from her brother.
Her condition is not quite good so far, since there
are signs of a graft vs. host reaction.
The doctors ask everybody for help in purchasing
7 vials of Ambisome, a medicine Olesya greatly needs
now. One vial costs 220 USD.

Olesya Andreeva is thirteen. And she went through terrible ordeals since she
was ten. Two dreadful diagnoses for one little girl: a malignant cerebral
tumor and, after a year, acute myelocytic leukemia. Olesya is a very talented
girl, she is good at schooling, plays the piano, does not forget her music
exercises even in hospital.
Now Olesya is in the Russian Clinical Children's Hospital. The doctors of the
Oncohematology Ward did all things possible for to achieve a remission, and
now marrow transplantation is necessary. Olesya's only brother is a matching
donor. But some medicines and expendables required for the transplantation
are lacking, and there is no money to buy them. Her mother is a physician,
and her father is a driver. There isn't anybody else who could be of help.
It is terrible but now the parents know the cost of their daughter's life.
They must find almost 5000$ to buy the medicines. The officials in Tver,
Olesya's native town, cannot understand the sufferings of this family.
There are no funds, they say, and there won't be. And there is surely no time
for reaching official decisions and going from one office to another.
At her thirteen, Olesya has gone through very much and felt very much. She
is willing to recover and feel the joy of each coming day. She will always
be grateful to people that can provide any help to her.
