To Regional Public Charitable Foundation
for Seriously ill and Abandoned Children
and President of Foundation Lina Saltykova
Dear Lina Zinovievna,
Thank you very much for the aid that your Foundation has been providing to the Department of Bone
Marrow Transplantation over the long years. The Program
for unrelated hematopoietic stem cell transplantations, initiated by your foundation,
is functioning successfully.
The pool of unrelated donors is presently becoming wider owing to the use of cord
blood specimens. The Cord Blood Stem Cell Bank of the Moscow City Department of Public Health
performs selection of cord blood units for transplantations to patients of our department.
According to international standards, there is need for additional high-accuracy molecular typing concerning
the DRB1 locus of cord blood samples that have previously been evaluated as HLA-identical in
terms of low-resolution serological typing. The reagents required for this additional testing
are lacking at the Cord Blood Bank, and so complete typing is not available. At the same time,
the problem of donor-recipient matching is very important for successful outcome
of transplantation.
Please consider the possibility of providing the Cord Blood Bank with the necessary
reagents within an official agreement with the Federal Center for Pediatric Hematology, Oncology,
and Immunology.
The total cost of the reagents is about 135,000 roubles ($4630).
